What causes car to have scrunching sound then cut off?

I have a 1992 Buick Skylark that runs pretty good. However, when I do long distance driving, I touch the brakes and there’s this scunching sound, the car jerks a little, and the car just shuts off. It cranks right back up, though. Any ideas on what may be causing this?

You might need to get in look at. Normally when a car shuts down for no reason it could be a couple of things. Your battery might be worn out or the coils to your battery. Your altenator might not be charging. Your spark plugs might be old. Your distributor might need replacing. Better to take the car and have it checked before something major breaks so rather be safe than sorry.
