Do I need to take a CBT to ride a motorbike if I have a provisional category A?
I got my licence in 1995 and I think I can ride a motorbike or any capacity without taking a CBT. However, I cannot seem to find an authoritative answer my question.
Note: This is mostly to settle a argument with someone from work, I do plan to take CBT.

Yes – you need to take a CBT – and your 1995 provisional licence ran out in 1997.

Not any more. A change in the law in 2001 means that even old licences with category A need a CBT to ride anything over 49CC. You can ride a moped without a CBT though.
Hedge Witch is wrong about your provisional licence expiring – they have a life of about 60 years not 2. I got mine in 1997 and it expires in 2058. I think she is confusing it with the theory certificate, which expires after 2 years. The provisional licence itself doesn’t.

wee had same arguement and the truth of the matter is you need 2 take your test 2 legally drive motorbike 125 0r not. ive got full uk driving licence and still need 2 sit test.

No, Finny, Hedge Witch is right… Provisional licences allow you to ride a moped/motorcycle for two years only. After that, you have to renew your entitlement to ride a moped/motorcycle. It does not affect your right to drive a car (with L plates).
